Huckleberries!!!

Hi, this is Benjamin, yesterday I went huckleberry picking with my parents! We went up Schweitzer, a mountain with a ski resort that overlooks town. We picked about 2 gallons worth of berries! My parents have a great huckleberry pie recipe -- I love huckleberries and pie is one of my favorite desserts. I'm going to relearn the crust recipe while I'm home and post about it later. Sam the dog went picking with us too, he likes huckleberries and actually eats them off of the bushes :-)

Less than 25 days left! I am really looking forward to getting back to Russia. I have some things to figure out before I arrive so that helps the time pass, but I can't wait to hug Katie for a long time the moment I see her. I miss her tons and tons.

oh Benjamin, there are so many! i read that huckleberries are the state berries of Idaho -- it makes sense.. We don't have much around Moscow, when we used to live up north in Saint-Petersburg we picked a lot too! Great photos! I miss you tons, dear! K

Are huckleberries and blueberries the same?! In German we have two words either, but they are used for the same fruit...

Mmm... love wild blueberries! I just picked some on my last hike, but they weren't this numerous. I think the bears got to most of them!

Thank you for stopping by my blog. I really appreciate it! I'm enjoying checking your out, too!

hi it's Katie! I guess huckleberries and blueberries are the same or at least close relatives from different parts of the world.. In Russia we have only one name for them but they do look exactly like these berries on the pics. Let's see what B says.. :-)

I just looked up huckleberries, and found that they ARE slightly different than blueberries, though mostly hard to distinguish. Your photos look like huckleberries, and where I was at this weekend, they were blueberries. I've never tried a huckleberry, so I can't comment on the flavor... you'll have to do that! :-)

Hi everybody, this is Ben, huckleberries and blueberries are different... I'm not sure how to describe the difference in taste, but they are certainly different. Huckleberries are a little smaller, a little more purple instead of blue, and the main difference is that huckleberries are mountain berries, they can't grow below a certain elevation and they are mostly found in forests, they don't grow very well in very sunny areas.
